Todi – A hilltop town in Umbria

Yesterday late afternoon I headed south from Perugia to the medieval hilltop town of Todi.

Among other things, Todi is justly famous as being one of Condé Naste’s top twenty cities in the world in which to live.  Over the past ten years this has brought a new affluence to the town, some delightful boutique shops, expensive jewellers, trendy clothes shops, yummy pasticceria, and a host of antique sellers.  Indeed Todi hosts an antiques market every second sunday of the month and an significantly  large annual antiques fair the second week in April.

But it was not for antiques I was here in Todi, there  are also some fabulous artisan linen shops, and I was on the hunt for linen to make table place mats for the dining room here at Bellaugello.  Linens are a speciality of both Montefalco and this beautiful town, and it was a good excuse to browse the clothes shops for sale bargains.  The selection in three of the specialist shops on the main Piazza del Popolo on the left just in front of the Duomo was large, indeed larger than I thought.  Having fone with the idea of earth colours, sands or ochres my eye was caught by a blazing lavender coloured bolt of linen, now that would be good here at Bellaugello.  There are linens for every age, style and taste, oh decisions decisions…..
