Gaite di Bevagna

June is a great time to be in Umbria, the weather is good, and the region is not overcrowded and there is much to see and do.  Near Norcia in the south east of the region the Piano Grande is in flower.  This high plateau covers many hundreds of hectares and at the moment is a carpet of wild flowers, a sight to behold the eyes, and a must for keen photographers.

Nearer to Bellaugello Gay Guest House is Bevagna, a delightful Umbrian Hilltop town on the seven valley ridge that flows south from Perugia.  Every June the clock is turned back several centuries and all the town is suddenly medieval, they hold their annual Gaite.  There are markets, feasts, shows, dancing, music, wine tastings and concerts.  If you want to experience the tradition of Umbria and some divine local produce then Bevagna is the place to be.  For further information here is the link to the programme for 2011:

Meanwhile I’m off to laze at the side of the pool here at Bellaugello……….
