Wintry weather

February sunAfter a huge amount of wind last night, a storm that came straight up the valley and blew for hours on end today is a chilly but clear day in Umbria.  The sun is warm but the outside temperature still cool.  Here at Bellaugello Gay Guest House we are working hard on the alterations, it surprises me just how quickly walls are erected and spaces change, and how my conversation changes from advice on what to see and where to tour in this beautiful region, to electrical sockets and plumbing.  This morning my architect came over for a review of progress and brought a young guy from his office who lives in Colpalombo the village across the valley from Bellaugello, just seen in the photo below, the second guy from the office from the same village, it is good to have a local team.Feb sun over the poolThe snow has receded to the tops of the Apennines, fields in the Chiascio valley below are waterlogged, and this morning Jenny and Milo my dogs returned home from a walk plastered in mud, but with big smiles on their faces!  This afternoon I am off to look at stainless steel surfaces, riveting!

Yesterday afternoon I bundled Milo my English Setter into the car and headed to Perugia for a visit to the vet.  As you guys who have stayed recently at Bellaugello Gay Guest House will know, Milo has two large cists.  These cists are not the first in his life, he has been operated on four times in his near twelve years, and in consultation with the vet last spring we decided that enough was enough, and there were to be no further operations.

However the cist on his neck has burst and is evidently very itchy, so he is worrying it constantly and something needs to be done hence the visit to the vet yesterday.

Melania is the most wonderful dedicated and caring vet, it was she that nursed Edo, Milo’s late brother who after a long battle with a weak heart died last year.  It was her that we saw yesterday and she is in agreement that we operate to remove the cists.  There are two, the one on his neck and a second on his  hip.  Melania’s concerns are twofold, that the skin may not close over the tension of the hip bone, and that his heart may not support the anesthetic.

So it was with a heavy heart that we returned home with the operation scheduled for this afternoon.  The past hours have for me been like a death sentence, every hour precious, to be savoured.  Knowing that Milo is to undergo an operation with no guarantees that he will survive is really perplexing, hard to get my head round.  It is catch 22, we need to operate but the operation may prove fatal.

Last night it rained again, fresh big life giving raindrops.  This morning the Chiascio valley is shrouded in rolling mist, there is just a small amount of blue sky showing, the sun peeking out, its going to be a great day…

On Junk Mail and Swimming

A telephone call this afternoon from a guy from the Netherlands has got me worried.

He is looking to book a room here at Bellaugello Gay Guest House, had sent me an email a few days ago, and not received a reply so had the kindness to telephone me.

Fortunately I keep a record of my received and sent emails, and also copy myself all sent mails, so I was able to discover in my system my reply,  and forward it on to him.

At the same time I sent an email confirmation to a friend’s hotel for a dinner reservation and it bounced back with a message failure signaling “junk box full”

I am now really worried that my emails are subject to a junk box mis-asignment filter and ending up being spammed and have absolutely NO IDEA what to do to check!

Is there anybody out there that can help?

On a brighter note the weather here in Umbria is still glorious, the infinity pool is a pleasant 20˚ and we are hoping to have it fully operational several weeks earlier than usual and open by this coming weekend 12 May for which there is still one suite available, do call for booking +39 075 920 374 or Skype ‘bellaugello’
