A truly glorious day here at Bellaugello Gay Guest House in Umbria.  The sun shone from first thing, and there was hardly a cloud in the sky.

I had friends over for lunch and at the last moment we transported the kitchen table and chairs outside for an alfresco meal.  I had made soup of chestnuts and cavolo nero and pancetta which I served with wholemeal soda bread, and followed with pasta della norma, washed down by a bottle of Nero d’Avola  One of my guests brough scrummy white chocolate and raspberry muffins, a perfect accompanyment to coffee and furthermore kindly left the recipe, I thought I might ttry them occasionally for breakfasts here!

Although there is still snow on the peaks of the Apenines, the sun was real warm.  Coming form Scotland it never ceases to amaze me that we are able to eat outside in March in just a ‘t shirt’ – maybe not every day, but today was utterly perfect.
