Giomici

Even in January Umbria is a delightful magical place to be.  Snapped on my walk late yesterday afternoon with friends at nearby Casa Castalda, the castle of Giomici rises majestically from the surrounding hillsides.

Forming a point of interest on the Sentiero Francescano della Pace which is a 50km walk between Gubbio and Assisi following the route taken by St Francis when he came to Gubbio to tame the wolf.

The walk along quiet dirt roads, part in shady woodland, part through open farmland passes several spectacular ancient buildings including not only the castle of Giomici but also the abbeys of Biscina, San Pietro and Vallingegno all dominating the Chiascio valley and visible from Bellaugello Gay Guest House, and so accessible to guests here without the need to take the car.
